Chuuk senator to meet with Chuukese community

Many members of the Chuuk community on Saipan are expected to attend a special meeting with Chuuk Sen. Setiro Paul, who is set to arrive today, Saturday.

Local courts deputy marshal Gideon Kikku, one of the Chuukese community leaders in the CNMI, told Saipan Tribune yesterday that Paul will be coming to the island from Guam.

Kikku said Paul will conduct a special meeting for Chuukese residents at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan today, Saturday, at 12pm.

“As our Chuuk senator at-large to the Federated States of Micronesia Congress, I am asking all Chuukese to come and share information,” said Kikku, who used to serve as police chief of Chuuk.

The deputy marshal said that Paul needs to know about the status of his constituents.

“Senator Paul also has the responsibility to inform the Chuuk community in the CNMI on what's going on back at home,” Kikku said.

There are about 3,000 Chuukese in the CNMI, mostly on Saipan. Of the 3,000, about 1,000 are voters.

Paul is a member of the 16th Congress of the FSM. He chairs the Committee on Health and Social Affairs. Elected in 2007 for a four-year term, Paul is seeking re-election in March 2011.
